Because the service I am providing is a workshop on how to budget money successfully, I believe a typical customer would be a college student aged 18-22. Although anyone of any age can take this workshop, I really feel as though the college age range is most suited for this service. For many people, college is the first time where people start becoming more independent: moving away from their parents and hometown, and starting to figure out what life is like as an adult. My customer has a job but also likes to eat food, and spends most of his money on that. He is also an avid video game player, and spends hours on end on his XBOX. He spends all of his paycheck on video games and food and has barely enough money leftover to pay for groceries and rent. He decides it becomes a problem after he realizes that his parents are sick of him asking for extra money to pay for things. This customer avatar wants to learn how to properly budget his money so that once he enters the real world, he won't go into debt.
I really relate to this avatar. We both like to spend our money on stupid things first like video games, before spending money on important things, like rent and groceries and gas. I don't really think it is a coincidence due to the fact that when coming up with a product to sell to customers, I thought of things that would help my life. I have a really hard time budgeting my money so I thought helping to create a workshop on budgeting would solve this problem.

Hey Ozzie,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job in evaluating what age range your typical customer would be in and I believe teaching college students how to manage their money would be very beneficial. Your typical customer seems like an everyday college student and I agree that most students between the ages of 18-22 would be more likely to spend their money of what they want, first, before spending on essentials. This could be costly and can negatively harm the student's relationship with their family, or simply impact them with being able to afford essential thing, like you said, such as groceries and rent. I would say I relate pretty closely to your customer and would be very interested to learn some of your budgeting techniques to help me manage my spending.
